Energy intensive processes

Background

Energy intensive processes offer both major opportunities and challenges in the energy transition. On the one hand, if the transformation is successful, they can act as powerful levers, since the steel and cement industries, for example, are responsible for a large proportion of Germany's greenhouse emissions. On the other hand, direct electrification, the preferred solution in terms of energy, is not practical in all processes. Following the current energy system based on chemical energy carriers (coal, oil and gas), hydrogen offers an easily integrated response to transformation challenges. Whether as a reducing agent or as an energy carrier for high-temperature products, hydrogen is versatile and easily compatible with the current energy system.

The transformation is still moving cautiously. To accelerate this by tapping synergies with players across the entire value chain as well as other companies and industries - this is what HYPOS wants to contribute to. The ramp-up of production, distribution and use of green hydrogen cannot happen in isolation, but must be accelerated in parallel to be successful. HYPOS sees its responsibility in uniting and coordinating these areas and would like to create a functioning hydrogen economy as quickly as possible in close cooperation with you.
